  • Mitchell Squarey

    Physiotherapist

    MScPT, BScBio, Diploma in Sport Physiotherapy, Registered International Sport Physical Therapist

    Mitchell is a two-time graduate of Dalhousie University, where he obtained his Masters in Physiotherapy. He has taken extensive post-graduate training in manual therapy, sport therapy/taping, exercise prescription, acupuncture, and dry needling. He is a holder of the highest sport physiotherapy qualification in Canada, the Diploma in Sport Physiotherapy. He is one of only 10 physiotherapists in Atlantic Canada to obtain this qualification.

    Mitchell is currently working towards the Diploma in Manual & Manipulative Therapy. To date, he has obtained is Level 3 designation. He is entering his 6th season as a Physiotherapist for the Halifax McDonald’s Major Midget hockey team. Mitchell has also worked with Hockey Nova Scotia’s High Performance U16 Program, attending the 2016 QMJHL Gatorade Challenge Cup and Identification Camps. He has worked with local Senior Men’s Soccer and youth High School Football, including the CPA High Football team. He is the lead therapist for the EastCost IceJam hockey tournament, and was selected as part of the host medical team for the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg. He is past board member of Nova Scotia Physiotherapy Association, and is on the executive of Sport Physiotherapy Canada — Nova Scotia section.

    Mitchell is an advocate for living a healthy, active lifestyle and takes great pride in helping his patients achieve their movement and performance goals. He believes a strong individualized plan involving; education, manual therapy, movement/strengthening exercise, and therapeutic modalities is integral in achieving these goals. Through his advanced background in sport and manual therapy training, he is able to create individualized treatment programs for the elite athlete, weekend warrior, and individuals looking to become and stay more physically active.

    Mitchell keeps active outside the clinic with resistance and cardio exercise, playing gentleman’s hockey in the local BMO league, golfing, and spending time with his wife Julie, their son Sawyer and dog Max.

  • Julie Squarey

    Physiotherapist

    Julie has an Honours BSc from the University of Western Ontario in Kineseology and a Masters in Physiotherapy from the Dalhousie School of Physiotherapy . Since graduating physiotherapy she has practiced in home care, inpatients, outpatients and private practice in the areas of cardiorespiratory, orthopaedics and sport physiotherapy. Julie has completed post graduate course work in manual therapy, movement impairment syndromes, acupuncture, sport physiotherapy and concussion management and treatment. Julie enjoys working one on one with clients, using her wide variety of experience to help empower them to achieve their goals.

    Julie is passionate about living a healthy active lifestyle and helping others to do the same so that they have the ability to do what they are passionate about for life!     Julie has worked with sports team and events at the local, provincial and national levels with cheer, ringette, soccer, goal-ball, football and hockey. She is currently a physiotherapist to the Halifax McDonalds Major Midget hockey team and has worked with the CPA High School Football team and the Metro Boston Pizza AAA Hockey Team in the past. She recently achieved her Certificate in Sport Physiotherapy. She spent 4 years volunteering on the Global Health Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association as the secretary and treasurer and 4 years on the Sport Physiotherapy Canada-NS executive, chairing it for her last two years.

    Julie loves to maintain and active healthy lifestyle outside of MOVE Physiotherapy by doing High Intensity Interval Training workouts at home, swimming when she can, nutritious meal planning and a lot of walking and hiking with her Husband, Mitchell, son, Sawyer, and Dog, Max!

  • Ryan Young

    Massage Therapist

    BHSc, RMT, Fascial Stretch Specialist, Restorative Movement Coach

    Practicing since 2006, Ryan has spent the majority of his career working in the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine communities. His clinical experience includes treating everything from complex neurological and trauma-induced conditions to facilitating sports injury rehab and the active lifestyle goals of his patients. Ryan’s treatment approach combines Myofascial, Neuromuscular and Sport Massage techniques in addition to refined traditional Swedish applications. Ryan also employs Fascial Stretch Therapy (R) (FST) to gently improve joint and tissue health and mobility.

    Practicing since 2006, Ryan has spent the majority of his career working in the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine communities. However, Ryan joins Move Physiotherapy bringing a distinct desire to have a positive impact on the health & wellness of the residents of HRM.

    His clinical experience includes treating everything from complex neurological and trauma-induced conditions to facilitating sports injury rehab and the active lifestyle goals of his patients. Ryan considers his work to be a privilege and while he doesn’t typically take himself seriously, he is always striving to deliver on account of the trust afforded to him by his patients.

    Ryan takes great care in providing the best in evidence-informed treatments and strives to empower his patients with his unique ability to explain the seemingly complex in comprehensive and easily digestible terms.

  • Nichole Walsh

    Administrative Assistant

    Nichole has a strong background in Customer Service and was very happy to join the MOVE Physiotherapy team in December 2017. She loves to learn new things and expand her Customer Service experience and office administration skills. She is one of the first faces you will meet when coming to MOVE Physiotherapy, and you will be sure to always be greeted with a smile.

    Nichole moved back to Nova Scotia in 2013, after 15 years of living in Yellowknife, NT. She misses the spectacular northern lights, but knew Nova Scotia was truly her home to return to.

    Nichole has a strong background in Customer Service and was very happy to join the MOVE Physiotherapy team in December 2017. She loves to learn new things and expand her Customer Service experience and office administration skills.

    Nichole is one of the first faces you will meet when coming to MOVE Physiotherapy, and you will be sure to always be greeted with a smile. When she is not at work, she enjoys spending time and being active with her husband and stepdaughter.

  • Theresa Myra

    Administrative Assistant

    Theresa has thrived, for over 30 years, as she worked with carefully selected business owners who understand that business growth comes from a positive customer experience. She is motivated by growing relationships with customers and ensuring they have the care they need administratively. Theresa tries to bring positive energy and attitude to everything she does.

    Theresa grew up in the beautiful town of Western Shore NS with a close knit family and was always active in her community even as a youth.  Athletics were important to her as she played soccer and baseball and competed in track and field.

    As a young professional, Theresa loved the challenge of office administration and finding efficiency while having a total focus on customer satisfaction.  For over 30 years she has thrived as she worked with carefully selected business owners who understand that business growth comes from a positive customer experience.  She has added several key designations to her skill set and has always kept current with training and upgrading her skills. She is motivated by growing relationships with customers and ensuring they have the care they need administratively.

    On the personal side, Theresa is active and loves the mental and physical effects of walks, swimming and cross country skiing.  She is also known to go on a shopping spree here and there! Theresa tries to bring positive energy and attitude to everything she does.

  • Graham Gilbert

    Canadian Certified Pedorthist

    B.Sc., C.Ped(C), C.Ped.Tech(C)

    Graham is a Canadian Certified Pedorthist and has been working in the medical field since 2008 helping patients alleviate foot and lower limb pain and get them back to living a healthy and active lifestyle. He is trained to design and fit custom foot orthotics based on his patients’ symptoms, foot type, and activity level.

    Graham is a Canadian Certified Pedorthist, BSc, C Ped (C), C Ped Tech (C). Graham has been working in the medical field since 2008 helping patients alleviate foot and lower limb pain and get them back to living a healthy and active lifestyle. He is trained to design and fit custom foot orthotics based on his patients’ symptoms, foot type, and activity level.

    Graham enjoys educating his patients regarding foot care, which includes the correct footwear and exercise programs for the feet. Graham is dedicated to finding the right solution for his patients. He is fluent in sign language.
